Kate Couture

Kate is a Métis artist living in amiskwacîwâskahikan. She recently graduated from the University of Alberta’s Bachelor of Arts program, where she double majored in Drama and English and minored in Creative Writing. She has had two plays produced, A Glass Half Fulfilled (2022), in collaboration with the Drama 457 class at the U of A, and Crisp Trepidation (2022) at the Edmonton International Fringe Festival. Most recently, she had her 52-word play published on a beer can, with Workshop West Playwrights’ Theatre. As an emerging playwright and a young Métis person, she is building her confidence artistically. She lives by the dearly departed philosopher Carrie Fisher’s words: “Take your broken heart, make it into art.” When she’s not procrastinating writing, or participating in theatre, Kate can be found playing with her dog, playing piano, painting, or any other word that starts with the letter “p”.
